| pt_BR |

dc.description.resumo_abstract | The periodontal phenotype is the term used to classify the periodontal thickness of patients. In one of the forms of its classification, it can be divided into: thin, medium, thick and very thick. The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation of dental aesthetic self- perception, through a structured questionnaire (Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire - PIDAQ), of patients seen at the Unichristus Dental School Clinic and its correlation with clinical findings of the periodontal phenotype. Thirty-six patients were selected from the population treated at the Unichristus dental school clinic according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All patients were evaluated regarding: smile height, periodontal phenotype assessment using the Colorvue® probe and application of the PIDAQ questionnaire in the Brazilian version. The data obtained were evaluated using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, for parametric ANOVA/Bonferroni and non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis/Dunn tests, in addition to Pearson's chi-square test. The psychometric analysis (PIDAQ) showed good results, observed through Cronbach's alpha with a mean of 0.734. No significant correlations were found between types of smile, sex or periodontal phenotypes and the aesthetic self-perception of the participants in this study. There was a significant correlation between the age factor and aesthetic self-perception (p<0.05), explained in three of the four PIDAQ domains, in patients aged 25 years or less, namely: Dental Self-Confidence, Social Impact and Impact Psychological. We conclude that younger patients who are being more emotionally affected by dental aesthetics, more concerned with the subjective perception of their own appearance and with feelings of inferiority and unhappiness when the affected individual is compared to other people, than patients older than 25 years. These attributes may be associated with the excessive use of social networks and the constant comparison with other individuals, whose negative perceptions can generate bad consequences for physical and mental health. | pt_BR |
