dc.description.resumo_abstractChronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by the gradual and irreversible loss of renal function, which may cause several systemic alterations that directly impact patients’ general and oral health. Among the main complications associated with CKD are hypertension, anemia, cardiovascular, immunological and metabolic alterations, as well as oral manifestations such as xerostomia, gingival bleeding, periodontal disease and increased risk of infections. In this context, dental follow-up becomes essential, especially in patients awaiting kidney transplantation, due to the need to eliminate infectious foci that may compromise the prognosis of medical treatment. Therefore, this study aims to report the clinical case of a patient with CKD, addressing the dental management and care required by this condition based on relevant literature. Initially, anamnesis was performed, including the collection of information regarding medical history, medication use, comorbidities and dental history. The patient reported hypertension, anemia, edema in the lower limbs and low frequency of dental visits. Clinical and radiographic examinations were also performed to evaluate the oral conditions and establish the treatment plan. During the dental evaluation, extensive carious lesions and the need for restorative interventions and tooth extractions were identified. All procedures were carried out considering the patient’s systemic conditions, with special attention to bleeding risk, possibility of infections and the need for medication adjustment due to reduced renal function. The discussion of the case highlighted the importance of individualized dental planning in patients with CKD, especially those undergoing hemodialysis or preparing for kidney transplantation. The literature demonstrates that these patients present greater susceptibility to systemic and oral complications, making the integration between medical and dental teams indispensable. Furthermore, the elimination of oral infectious foci contributes to risk reduction during and after transplantation, favoring better systemic conditions and quality of life. Therefore, it is concluded that the dentist plays a fundamental role in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease, acting in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oral alterations associated with the disease. Appropriate dental management, combined with a multidisciplinary approach, is essential to ensure greater clinical safety and therapeutic success in these patients.pt_BR
