Perception of caregivers and patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) regarding quality of life and quality of dental care – pilot studypt_BR
dc.description.resumo_abstractAutism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) presents specific challenges regarding access to dental care, directly impacting the oral health of this population. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the satisfaction of caregivers of individuals with ASD with the dental care provided at the Dental School Clinic of Universidade Christus (UNICHRISTUS) and their self-perceived quality of life, seeking to identify strengths and weaknesses in both the service and caregivers’ living conditions. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted using structured questionnaires administered to six caregivers of patients with ASD. The majority were male (66.6%), had incomplete primary education (66.6%), half were unemployed (50%), and household income was predominantly between one and two minimum wages (50%). All caregivers gave the maximum overall rating and stated they would recommend the clinic; the highest-rated aspects were the attitude of the dental professional/student and the clarity of information provided (83.3% very satisfied in both). Regarding quality of life, 80% rated it as good, reflecting psychological resilience, although 60% reported negative feelings such as anxiety or depression on some occasions, and 80% reported moderate physical pain. It is concluded that the Dental School Clinic offers humanized, specialized dental care with high approval levels, while the main weaknesses lie in the socioeconomic and health conditions of the caregivers themselves, reinforcing the need for targeted psychosocial support programs for this group.pt_BR
